Natural sisal carpets have long been a favourite for interiors thanks to their earthy, rustic texture. Add to that sisal’s higher-than-average durability, and it makes them the perfect wall-to-wall carpets for high traffic areas such as hallways and living rooms. Sisal carpeting is environmentally friendly because of its sustainable growth, non-toxic makeup and biodegradability.
Our range of sisal carpets come from industry leading brands such as Alternative Flooring, Kersaint Kob and Crucial Trading. These suppliers are famed for their exceptional craftsmanship and use of premium sisal to bring you an underfoot experience like no other.
Sisal offers practically everything in one single package. It’s incredibly hard-wearing qualities are thanks to the sisal agave fibres which can withstand the wear from heavy shoes and furniture. Despite their durability, sisal carpets can be extremely soft, making them suited to lounges, dining rooms and bedrooms. The natural rustic look of sisal carpet is signature; its neutral tones do a great job of complimenting most interiors while creating a sense of space. Maintenance requirements are also very minimal for sisal carpet with little more than a regular vacuum clean needed to keep on top of dust and dirt. Unlike synthetic carpets, sisal is natural which means that it gives off no toxic gases and keeps the air quality pure. This is especially good news for those who suffer from allergies and hypersensitivity.
Is sisal carpet eco-friendly?
Yes, sisal carpets are made from 100% natural fibres found in the tropical Agave plant and are completely biodegradable. Grown primarily in Mexico, Brazil and parts of West Africa, sisal fibres are ethically processed and use very little in the way of synthetic additives, toxic dyes and any other environmentally harmful products. In fact, sisal carpets are known to be naturally stain resistant and require little to no additional stain remover. At knotistry, we only work with suppliers that can demonstrate an ethical supply chain. This way we can guarantee that our sisal carpets are sustainable both physically and morally.
Where is sisal carpet made?
This depends on the manufacturer of the carpet. Sisal fibres are usually sourced from overseas and then weaved into a sisal carpet at the manufacturer’s workshop.
Crucial Trading – After carefully selecting quality sisal from abroad, Crucial Trading weave their sisal carpets at their craft warehouse in mid-Wales.
Alternative Flooring – Sustainably sourced sisal is imported from Madagascar and weaved into award-winning sisal carpets at Alternative Flooring headquarters in Andover.
